Some fabrics are just too pretty to cut up

So I'm making a whole cloth quilt out of Anna Maria's Loulouthi Totem print.


I had to piece two lengths together which was a challenge but I'm fairly pleased with my joinery skills....

Fabric join
Can you see the join running across the center of the image?
And for the back, another fabric from the same range.

I plan to hand quilt this one with Perle 8 thread because I've been needing a new portable hand stitched project. (I can only handle so many hexies at a time).

The question is do I stitch around the fabric design in coordinating colours like Anna Maria did?
Or do I go for a simple cross hatch in cream thread? Or maybe pink?

Your thoughts?

    I love how Anna Maria stitched around the design but I personally would only be able to do such detail with a small amount of fabric. With the blanket the size that you are doing I personally would go with a simple cross hatch probably in pink... maybe cream... maybe pink {well not a clue about that one}.
    I know that whatever you do it will be beautiful and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

    Hey lovely lady, how have you been> Gorgeous fabric, I COULD NOT see the seam at all- lots of looking and finally could, you did a great job! I think I would go around the flowers; a bit longer maybe, but makes it a bit different on a whole cloth quilt maybe?

    I'm with Randi about loving the look of outlining the design with hand stitches. But really, how can you go wrong with handstitching? It ups the "oh,my" factor in a quilt, so I know whatever you chose to stitch will be lovely, Andi.

    Great idea to make a whole cloth quilt from this print. It's divine!

    Yes such beautiful fabric, there is no way I could cut into it either and neither could I see your seam! I really love the way Anna quilted hers but I think cross hatching in a pale pink sounds quite beautiful too.

    I think I would go cream around the shapes. Depends on how much time you want to spend on the whole project. Maybe start off simple and if you are loving it, add more detail. I do agree that some fabrics are just too beautiful to cut.

    If it's coming to live with me then I don't mind how you quilt it, but I probably would vote for cross hatching.

    The stitch around looks so good - but it's a lot of work!! How long do you want to quilt it for?! Cross hatching will be quick and easy. (Sorry, just playing devil's advocate here!!)

    What a good idea. I'm in love with handquilting at the moment. I've been finishing off 101 projects (almost) but this would be just the thing to cart around for the summer.

    Indeed, some fabrics are so cute that you could just stare at it for hours and hours. Considering this, why would you even begin to cut it?
