Booked months ago. Let's hope Fiji can offer up some better weather in a few weeks time.
In a spirit of optimism, I have made a pouch for our family's passport collection.
With a section for each of us ...
Still waiting for the kids' passports to arrive to fill their pockets.
It's my first time sewing with plastic stuff.
It took me a little while to work out I would need to use my machine's walking foot (doofus!) but after that it was relatively smooth sailing.
Of course, we are not only thinking of ourselves and our family at this time, but of all the families who are now in need as a result of Cyclone Tomas. If you would like to provide some financial support to victims of this disaster, you could try UNICEF or the ANZ Bank. (I'm certain there will be others too).
Give your loved ones an extra tight squeeze tonight.
Andi :-)
Hope you have a great holiday. Your passport pouch looks great.
ReplyDeleteHow I love Fiji. One of our favourite ever family holidays. I hope you have a great time.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the encouragement re sewing with plastic. That stuff scares me too.
my goodness, i hope that you have better weather...i love the pouch you made. very clever. good to know that i should use my walking foot on the vinyl. i have a project to do with it but would not have thought of that.
ReplyDeleteA great cover for the passports!
ReplyDeletegreat idea Andi - I could have used one of those just this week! maybe I can work on it for our next trip in July. Did you use a pattern?
ReplyDeleteLove your idea - very clever, have a great trip
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip, Andi! Those passportcovers are great! I have tried sewing with plastic, too. There certainly is a few tricks to it!

LOVE that passport holder. Such a great idea. I've had my machine for 2 years and never put the walking foot on. Way too intimidated. X
ReplyDeleteLove the passport holder-great idea! I can never work with plastic too well. Sometimes I put tracing paper in between the layers and it helps a little...
ReplyDeleteGreat passport holder, I haven't seen one like that and it is great.
ReplyDeleteThe passport holder looks great, my DD made one just like it now I need one. A tip I heard when sewing plastic is to put a bit of masking or painters tape under the foot, it stops it sticking to the plastic. I'm sure the dramas in Fiji will be over in time for your holiday.
ReplyDeleteTry a teflon foot for the sewing PVC, it's like butter & about $15, worth it for the tears!! Happy holidays, cute passport holder. I have a Cath Kidston one for our 6. Safe travels, love Posie
ReplyDeleteHave a good holiday Andi, my friend went this weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to look so swisho rolling up to passport control! Here's to gentle sea breezes.
ReplyDeleteYour passport holder turned out beautiful, and what a great way to keep them all together. Just one more reason I need to get a walking presser foot. I keep telling myself I don't need one, but I should just stop fighting with myself an get it already!
ReplyDeleteThat passport wrap looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea.
Have a great trip! It's more of a tragedy when people cancel their trips because countries like that depend on tourists.

Love the idea of the passport pouch! It always makes me nervous having so many things that are so important and can't get lost. We have 8 passports for 5 people and I must get one of these happening for the next trip OS.
