Whip up!!

Ella's birthday is coming up next month.
She has asked for a rainbow quilt this year.

So this morning, I whipped this up .....

Squares are 8.5 inches cut.
48inches x 56 inches sewn.

Super quick and easy to throw together.

I'm considering turning it into a picnic rug for summer time tea parties.

Any suggestions for what to use on the under side?
Something water-proof-ish? Washable?

Andi :-)

  1. i think the standard cotton we use on quilts is perfect for those picnic quilts! Don't stress about the back...have fun with it!

  2. The quilt top is gorgeous, I adore each and every one of the fabrics you have used. Beautiful. The back? Not too sure if you need to waterproof for our Melbourne climate, unfortunately. Great quilt, Ella will love it.

  4. A Scorpio huh? I've got a cuple of those trouble makers. Ella is one lucky girl, that quilt is gorgeous. I can't believe you just 'whipped it up'.

  5. They are gorgeous fabrics, I love the colours you have put together. For the back - why not a busy print of cotton fabric which won't show up the dirt too quickly.

  6. The quilt is darling! We have a picnic quilt, and haven't had too many problems with it getting wet. I just need to be washable.

  7. Great colors... You could back it with a denem. It is sturdy and washes well and maybe even a denem drawstring bag to carry it (with napkins (made from some of the fabrics from the top - earth friendly) dishes and silverware for the picnic!

  8. Oh, how very beautiful and fun! I adore this wonderful play with bright and colorful fabrics!!! A friend of mine used an old shower curtain as the back of her picnic quilt.

  12. I always just carry a tarp to put underneath if needed. That way you can use a lovely quilt for cozy time too.

    I love it, it's wonderful.

  13. IKEA sell these rugs, or blankets in different colours and I often use them as backing (without any batting) for baby quilts or quilts which need to be washed often. They are cheap and easy to work with, even hand quilting is no problem. And they are cheap.

  14. Love the colours in the quilt/picnic rug.
My mum made me a picnic rug and used a soft plastic table cloth for the back, you know the ones with a soft fluffy back on them? I think you can find them at the cheap $2 shops. Mine has worked a treat for 8 yrs or so!
